My Clean Beauty Night Time Routine with Non-Toxic Skincare
Updated: Jul 19, 2020
What is Clean Beauty?
According to Goop, Clean Beauty means a non-toxic product that is made without a long list of ingredients linked to harmful health effects from hormone disruption, to cancer, to even simple skin irritation. To mention a few ingredients: Parabens, phthalates, PEGs, Ethanolamines, chemical sunscreens, synthetic fragrance, BHT, BHA.
Why Clean Beauty?
After being diagnosed with Lupus in 2018, I had to re-evaluate my whole lifestyle. As a beauty junkie, that meant changing my skincare routine too! I slowly stopped using products with alcohol, preservatives and other chemical ingredients that could be damaging my health. Goodbye chemicals!
Me saying goodbye to toxic chemicals and toxic people in my life like...
My Clean Beauty Night Routine:
I ALWAYS start my day with rose water. Ever since I tried it, I have been addicted to it's natural healing properties and soothing scent. Most days I don't wear make-up, so cleansing my face with rose water (either spraying it directly on my face or with a cotton pad) is all I need to get rid of excess oil and dirt on my face. Less is more.
My number 1 holy grail, DVA Organics Green Tea Mask is my own homemade face mask. It's 100% vegan, halal and organic which is why I can't live without it. Once a week I use it as a face mask and leave it on for 30 minutes, but everyday I use it as a cleanser and natural exfoliator!
The main ingredient is oats, which contain compounds called saponins that are natural cleansers and natural exfoliators and can gently remove my dead skin. It also absorbs excess oil and fights acne. Oats are 100% safe for skin and health so I don't have to worry about any side effects.
For toner, I have finally switched to an alcohol-free formula that still works hard to fight against my oily skin. Thayer's Witch Hazel works like a charm without irritating my skin! So far, I use the rose petal one, just because I already know it will work well with rose water.
I always tone my face after cleansing, just to make sure I don't have any traces of oil or dirt left on my face.
Who doesn't love aloe vera? I actually use aloe vera for so many things everyday, I literally have tons and tons of it at my home. One thing I never fail to use it for is as a natural moisturiser for my face, it has ultra nourishing properties and works well as a humectant. This means, it is able to lock in all the moisture thus keeping my skin feeling fresh and healthy all day long.
As it is a gel form, it makes a perfect 'primer' for my oily skin as it is certainly oil free. My face always feels plump and healthy after applying aloe vera generously. For sure one of my '3 things I'd bring on a deserted island' items. Lol
They say, 'Rosehip oil is the natural tretinoin,' it is full of vitamin A as well as fatty acids like Omega 3, 6, 9. It is so powerful and does so much goodness , rosehip oil hydrates the skin, reduces fine lines/wrinkles and improves the skin tone making it more even.
The best thing I love about rosehip oil is that it is non-comedogenic which means it does not clog my pores! I can apply it on and not have to worry about causing my skin to over produce oils.
I use this for lymphatic drainage. So, I just started learning about crystals and lymphatic drainage using jade and quartz rollers. My favourite way to use my Rose Quartz Roller is directly after using oil, the coolness of the stone also makes it incredibly relaxing and helps to de-puff under-eyes.
Coconut oil is another, multi-powered natural miracle. For me, I mainly use VCO for my lips at least twice a day! Apart from being extremely nourishing, I personally love the mild coconut scent.
Once a week, I use VCO to moisturise my whole body especially after shaving and as a leave in hair treatment. Probably better than any over the counter product I've ever tried.
I use this every night to help grow my eyebrows!
Jamaican castor oil is rich in vitamin E and is comprised mainly of the fatty acid ricinoleic acid, it is known to help promote healthy hair and boost hair growth. The texture is very thick so it is best used at night before sleeping.
